This book reveals the never-before-told story of the horned rabbit—the myths, the hoaxes, the very real scientific breakthrough it inspired—and how it became a cultural touchstone of the American West.

Roaming the Desert: Writing Home and Landscape with Kendra Atleework and Victoria Blanco.

Keen observers of nature, and engaging storytellers learn about the work and experiences of these two captivating authors. Kendra Atleework is the winner of the Sigurd F. Olson Nature Writing Award, the 2021 Women Writing the West WILLA Literary Award in Creative Nonfiction, and 2021 pick for Nevada’s statewide books club, Nevada Reads. Victoria Blanco is a writer from El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, and is a recipient of a Fulbright Award, the 2018 Roxane Gay Fellowship in Creative Nonfiction for the Jack Jones Literary Arts writers' retreat, as well as a Fellow in the 2019 Culture, Too Conference, hosted by Jack Jones Literary Arts, and a Fellow in the 2017-2018 Loft Mentor Series. Her first book, Out of the Sierra, is forthcoming from Coffee House Press.
