Kendra Atleework is a writer born and raised in the high desert, below the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains of California. She currently lives in Minneapolis, where she is awed by grass growing without sprinklers.
Her memoir-in-progress stems from a piece that appeared in Best American Essays 2015 and maps the convergence of family, place, and history.
Her work has been supported by fellowships and awards from the Minnesota State Arts Board, the Ellen Meloy Fund for Desert Writers, the Anderson Center, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, and the University of Minnesota, where she got her MFA.
